Advanced Peer Support Training
The West Coast Post-trauma Retreat (WCPR) Program has been recognized by The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as an Advanced Peer Counseling Class. The advanced peer counseling course provides a participant 44 'classroom' hours over a 6 day period (Sunday to Friday). The City of San Rafael (CA) sponsors this course, managing all relevant POST paperwork, to include attendance hours. At the retreat the peer support member will work with clients attending the program, participate in staff meetings and attend classes. This training offers the student a unique opportunity to work in a residential trauma recovery program under the supervision of clinicians and experienced peer support members. The WCPR program only serves First Responders.
There is no cost to attend the program and the room and board are free. The only cost to an agency will be the person’s time and personal transportation.
To attend the program as training the peer will need:
WCPR reserves the right to not accept any individual deemed inappropriate for the course. The client's needs come first. All participants are expected to sign a confidentiality document, acknowledging the participant's requirement to hold confidentiality in the highest regard. A breach of confidentiality is a zero tolerance issue in all aspects of the FRSN, WCPR, and SOS programs.
Due to space limitations only 3 peer counselors through POST can attend per session. We hold 12 sessions per year. The San Rafael Police Department has agreed to manage the POST paper work.
If you are interested please call (415) 721-9789 and ask for the peer director to contact you.
