Basic Peer Support Training This three-day AB 11117 compliant course will provide students with an understanding of basic peer support skills, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), information about starting and maintaining peer support programs and other relevant information regarding treatment and support for traumatic stress. Advanced Peer Support Training

The West Coast Post-trauma Retreat (WCPR) Program has been recognized by The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as an Advanced Peer Counseling Class. The advanced peer counseling course provides a participant 44 'classroom' hours over a 6 day period (Sunday to Friday). At the retreat the peer support member will work with clients attending the program, participate in staff meetings and attend classes. This training offers the student a unique opportunity to work in a residential trauma recovery program under the supervision of clinicians and experienced peer support members. The WCPR program only serves First Responders.
There is no cost to attend the program and the room and board are free. The only cost to an agency will be the person’s time and personal transportation.
To attend the program as training the peer will need:
WCPR reserves the right to not accept any individual deemed inappropriate for the course. The client's needs come first. All participants are expected to sign a confidentiality document, acknowledging the participant's requirement to hold confidentiality in the highest regard. A breach of confidentiality is a zero tolerance issue in all aspects of the FRSN, WCPR, and SOS programs.

- Basic Peer Counseling Class
- At least two years experience as a peer counselor with any First Responder agency
- A letter of recommendation from a supervisor
- A telephone interview with the peer director and any additional person the peer director deems appropriate.
