Advanced Peer Support Training
This course is certified through The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in California as an Advanced Peer Counseling Class. The course provides 40 hours of experiential learning and direct application over a 6 day period (Sunday to Friday) for those who have already received basic peer support training. The training takes place at the First Responder Support Network’s West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat (WCPR), a residential wellness program for emergency responders based on the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation’s (ICISF) Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) model. Students will expand their peer support skills through the modes of instruction, observation, and providing direct peer support to clients attending the program. The advanced skills gained will serve the further development and implementation of peer support programs in home agencies.
There is no fee to attend the course. The only cost to an agency is the attendee’s time and personal transportation.
Prerequisites:
FRSN reserves the right to not accept any individual deemed inappropriate for the course. Client needs come first. All participants are expected to sign a volunteer agreement, acknowledging that they will follow all applicable FRSN policies, including the cornerstone of confidentiality.
